Summer 2026 Update: Stay Tuned…

We haven’t forgotten you or fallen off the edge of the earth! We are just waiting for some substantive movement in the process of buying the timber rights in the Port Gamble Forest Heritage Park, to which so many of you donated.

As of now, Kitsap County has contracted with Forterra to negotiate for the remaining timber rights in the park. We are also trying to have the state capital allocation go directly to the county to minimize the admin fees involved, in keeping with our pledge to have as much as possible of the money we raise to go for trees.

These things take time, but hopefully we will have more progress to report back to you very soon.

Meanwhile, as we look out on a smoky landscape, as we watch the news about Spokane burning and the wildfires all over Washington and Oregon and British Colombia, we know that much of forest loss cannot be easily prevented or quickly fixed. But we must look forward and think about what we CAN do for a more resilient environment. It’s all one ecosystem, so trees saved anywhere help the planet everywhere.

The trees we save here and now can live centuries. Centuries of providing habitat and food for wildlife. Centuries of filtering and cooling the air, of managing stormwater by directing it into the soil to prevent erosion and drought. Centuries of cooling the earth and providing respite to all of us.

Our work is more important now than ever.
