Local Business Matching Fund

Map showing saved areas, clearcut areas, and areas left to save in the Port Gamble Heritage Forest Park

Our Forest Fund spearheaded the effort that saved 756 acres of trees in the Port Gamble Forest Heritage Park in 2022.

Now let’s save the rest.

There are about 1000 acres of trees left to secure from clearcut. Our goal is $1,000,000. As before, it will take much more than this to to buy them all, but this will get the ball rolling.

How you can help:

Until Valentine’s Day, Feb 14, we are collecting pledges from local businesses to create a matching fund to encourage donations from the public. Your company’s contribution will be doubled by the public! That’s impact! Your business will be listed as a contributor (unless you prefer to be anonymous) to the matching fund in our promotional materials, so your customers will know you care about the environment.

The matching campaign will take place from Valentine’s Day, Feb 14, until the Kitsap Great Give on Wednesday, March 11. Your pledges must be in by Fri March 13.

Your gifts to Our Forest Fund are tax-deductible and go solely to save trees from clearcut-type of harvest. We are a grassroots, all-volunteer organization, and a designated fund under Kitsap Community Foundation, a 501c3 organization, EIN 94-3205217.

Forests are essential to a healthy community and planet:

  • creating the oxygen we breathe
  • cleaning and cooling the air
  • holding water in the ground
  • enriching the soil
  • providing habitat for wildlife
