$300,000 Allocated to Save Port Gamble Trees!

Our Forest Fund is happy to report that thanks to Washington State Senator Christine Rolfes’ hard work, $300,000 has been allocated in the newly approved state budget specifically to buy trees in the Port Gamble Forest Heritage Park!

Senator Rolfes was instrumental in facilitating the original purchase of the land by the county, so when Our Forest Fund’s co-chair Alia Pirzada brought up with her the tree saving project, a metaphorical lightbulb appeared over her head. “I have an idea about where to find some of that money,” she said.

Working with Kitsap County Commissioner Rob Gelder, an application was put in for an enterprising amount of funding, and $300,000 was eventually allocated by the legislature.

Along with the now more than $33,000 raised through individual donations, forest lovers in Kitsap are getting close to being able to open negotiations with Rayonier.  So keep donating, folks… Hit that red button at the bottom of the screen to make your tax-deductible donation to save trees!
